Construction work on the Deduru Oya dam in the Kurunegala district is now nearing completion. It will hold 75 million cubic metres of water on completion and provide irrigation facilities for 11,000 ha (27,500 acres) of paddy land in the Deduru Oya and Mee Oya basins benefitting about 15,000 farmer families while another 50,000 families will benefit through domestic water facilities, lift irrigation, and extension of inland fisheries culture.
