Budget 2014 - CNCI focuses more on industries
The chambers that represent the business
community have presented their proposals for the 2014 Budget which
will accelerate economic development through a vibrant business
environment in the country. The Ceylon National Chamber of
Industries (CNCI), Chairman, Gamini Gunasekera said that the chamber
has called upon the government to address the skills mismatch by
bringing industry needs to the education curriculum.

'Ease of doing business':
Overall improvement of our position vital
Sri Lanka has been ranked 85 in the World Bank's
‘Doing Business 2014’ report, a slip from 81 last year. In this
report 189 economies are ranked on their ease of doing business,
from 1 to 189. A high rank in the ease of doing business index means
the regulatory environment is more conducive to start and operate a
local company.

CBF will facilitate Sri Lankan investors
The Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) will
facilitate Sri Lankan investors to find investment opportunities in
other Commonwealth countries, said Deputy External Affairs Minister,
Neomal Perera. He said that the Government, business chambers and
the business community will hold the CBF from November 12-14 at the
Cinnamon Grand.

Inflation drops to 7.6 percent in October
Inflation, as measured by the Colombo Consumers’
Price Index (CCPI) (2006/07=100) and computed by the Department of
Census and Statistics, declined to 7.6 percent in October 2013 from
7.8 percent in September 2013 on an annual average basis, for the
fifth consecutive month.
