Ceylinco Life will build and equip a surgical High Dependency Unit
(HDU) for Ward 6A of the Professorial Surgical Unit of the National
Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) as a CSR initiative.
The unit will provide intensive post-operative care to patients who
undergo complex gastrointestinal, hepato-pancreatico-biliary and other
general surgical procedures.
Ceylinco Life's response follows a request by the Dean, Faculty of
Medicine of Colombo University, Prof. Rohan Jayasekara.
The dedicated surgical high dependency unit will have two ICU beds
with their own multi parameter monitors, syringe pumps, infusion pumps
and suction apparatus, and its own oxygen supply and oxygen cylinder
bank. The company will also bear the cost of structural changes required
to isolate an area within the ward for the new unit and to ensure its
sterility.
An agreement covering the undertaking was signed recently by the
company's Director and Deputy CEO Thushara Ranasinghe and Prof.
Jayasekara. The new High Dependency Unit is due to be completed and
handed over next month.
"It is our hope that this unit will contribute to a significant
improvement in the quality of post-operative care at this ward, while
easing some of the pressure on the National Hospital's Surgical ICU,"
Ranasinghe said.
"As a company that has a close and long term engagement with the
community, Ceylinco Life feels privileged to help," he said.
This is the second unit donated by Ceylinco Life to the Professorial
Ward of the Faculty of Medicine in the past year. |
