CEAT launches new tyres
The product portfolio of CEAT Kelani Holdings has expanded with the
addition of 10 new tyres in four categories.
Two new sizes for SUVs, two new patterns under the ‘Milaze’ range of
radial tyres for passenger cars, five new tyres for motorcycles and a
new off the-road tyre were launched at a gathering of dealers last
week.“The CEAT ‘World of Tyres’ continues to expand rapidly with regular
additions to the range we offer in different categories,” CEAT Kelani,
Managing Director Raman Rajagopalan said.
SLI Suba Pathum scholarships
Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) has called for applications under the Suba
Pathum scholarship scheme from Grade five students who excelled at the
scholarship exam in August. This scholarship scheme was launched in June
this year.
Of the applications received under the scheme, the four top ranking
students from each district will be selected, totalling 100 students.
A scholarship award of Rs. 20,000 will be awarded to each student as
a lump sum payment. If the student’s parents or guardian is a Sri Lanka
Insurance Life Policy holder the benefit will be granted for a
continuous period as an annual payment until the child faces the next
national level examination.
Kilinochchi veggies for Cinnamon Hotels
Agri World Products ventured into a new operation by supplying
vegetables to the two Cinnamon Hotels in Colombo. The vegetables are
grown in the Kilinochchi district.
Managing Director Ayantha Panditharatne said that it was a remarkable
achievement that the farmers who endured three decades of terrorism, are
now getting their lives back on track, growing produce that can be
marketed in the south.
Panditharatne thanked Keells Hotel Management Services for purchasing
the vegetables for their hotels and to the Sri Lankan
Army, based in Kilinochchi, for providing the basic logistical
facilities to make this project a success.
Keerthiratne - SLII President
Sanjiv Keerthiratne was recently elected President of the Sri Lanka
Insurance Institute (SLII). Keerthiratne has been in the insurance
industry for 25 years. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance
Institute (CII) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He
is also a Chartered Marketeer. He is the Managing Director of Senaratne
Insurance Brokers, which commenced operations 34 years ago. Prior to
that, he worked at AIG Insurance as Vice President, Delmege Insurance
Brokers as Deputy Managing Director, Lanka Orix Insurance Brokers as CEO
and Eagle Insurance (now AIA). He is an old boy of St. Joseph's College,
Colombo 10.
Commonwealth Foundation assists OPA
The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA)
appreciated member nations of the Commonwealth for selecting Sri Lanka
as the venue for the XXIII Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting
(CHOGM). The OPA has reason to rejoice as it was the Commonwealth
Foundation which initially assisted the formation of the OPA.
The Commonwealth Foundation believed that closer interaction and
co-operation among professionals would benefit the country and its
people towards development and foster a close rapport among
professionals and other groups in the community for the advancement of
interdisciplinary activity.
Mobitel wins gold at Techno Awards

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel won the Gold Award for the ‘Best
Demonstration’ at the National Engineering and Technology Awards 2013
for a second consecutive year recently.
The National Engineering and Technology Awards is organised by the
Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL).
Mobitel was also a principal sponsor of ‘Techno 2013’, the National
Engineering and Technology Exhibition organised for the 28th consecutive
year by the IESL.
HNB launches affinity credit cards for CA Sri Lanka

Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB)recently launched an affinity credit
card for members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka
(CA Sri Lanka).
The affinity cards, Visa Signature and Visa Platinum are offered to
CA Sri Lanka members with a host of benefits including a waiver of the
first year annual fee and joining fee while card holders will be
entitled to discounts from various outlets, apart from a host of other
benefits associated with personal financial services.

Jonathan Alles and HNB, Chief Operating Officer Dilshan Rodrigo were
present. at the signing ceremony recently. The CA affinity card is
issued only to Chartered Accountants who are members of CA Sri Lanka.
Keells Super goes to Panadura
Keells Super opened a supermarket at Walana, Panadura recently.
This outlet has a wide range of fresh produce – vegetables, fruits,
seafood and meat to groceries, household products for the family.
The outlet has its own bakery which produces a range of bread,
savouries, doughnuts, muffins, cookies and a variety of cakes.On the
opening day customers were treated to a traditional Sri Lankan
breakfast. Children were entertained with face painting, games and sweet
treats. All customers who patronised the outlet during the opening
weekend received a 10 percent discount on bills above Rs. 1,500.
People’s Bank Vanitha Vasana winners chosen
The grand draw of the People’s Bank Vanitha Vasana Sihina Kapruka
competition, introduced to celebrate International Women’s Day 2013, was
held at the People’s Bank head office recently.
The draw was carried out in five stages, with 50 lucky winners of Rs
100,000 each, 100 winners of Rs 50,000, 200 winners of Rs 25,000, 350
winners of Rs 10,000 and 750 winners of Rs 5,000 being selected.
People’s Bank, CEO and General Manager N. Vasantha Kumara, Head of
Marketing and Public Affairs, Deepal Abeysekara, Deputy General Manager
(Retail Banking), Ms. Renuka Jayasinghe, and Cooperate and Executive
Managers were present.

The annual awards ceremony of Mass
Lanka Awards 2013 was held recently, where many engaged in
diverse sectors were commended for the services rendered for
the development of the country. At this ceremony for local
entrepreneurs, Ranil and Ann Perera of Sleek Salon were
recognised for their contribution in the area of hair and
beauty care. Sleek Salon, commenced its journey on February
15, 1962, through the efforts of the late M.L. Morley
Perera. With his demise, his son Ranil Perera took over the
operations of the business. This task of continuing a family
business fell on him while schooling. From left: Managing
