An unforgettable person in my life

Everyone in this world likes to lead a good life. Many people help us
in making our life better. Doctors help us in curing our diseases.
Teachers help us in brightening our future. Farmers give us food. Among
them, teachers are very important to everyone. Though doctors, engineers
and lawyers are important, they also have to study under a teacher.
Therefore, teachers are an asset to society. The greatest person I
met in my life is my English teacher.
Marliya Izzadeen is my English teacher who improved my knowledge from
the age six. She looks so pretty and smart. She taught us English very
effectively. She speaks to us very politely. I was interested in going
to her academy after I started my studies with her. I have participated
in many English competitions and won many prizes. Now I can speak
English fluently. I like my English teacher very much because she has
showed me the way to success.

The Yapahuwa rock fortress
Yapahuwa is a city which was a kingdom of Sri Lanka in ancient times.
Although it may not hold the same prominence as the cities of
Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa, the city holds a special place in history.
Yapahuwa is better known for its rock fortress. Another place which
was built with a similar concept was Sigiriya. The Yapahuwa rock
fortress rises 100 metres from a plain. However, unlike Sigiriya, it is
relatively peaceful these days, as it does not attract many visitors.
The Yapahuwa fortress was built in the 13th century to protect the
kingdom from south Indian invaders.
It was also known as the 'fire rock.’ King Buwanekabahu I set up his
kingdom in Yapahuwa. One of the most outstanding feature of the fortress
is the steep ornamental staircase leading up to the ledge which held the
100th temple. The majestic lions near the top of the staircase give are
well known for their superb craftsmanship. They are also depicted on the
ten rupee note.
The porches on the stairway have beautifully carved stone windows.
One of them is displayed at the Colombo National Museum.
Another can be seen at the museum of the Yapahuwa historic site. The
South Indian influence of the time is apparent in the carvings of
animals, dancers and musicians.
The museum stands to the right of the entrance. Stone sculptures of
God Vishnu and Goddess Kali along with fragments of ancient pottery work
are some of the items exhibited at the museum. So, Yapahuwa is another
ancient city we can proudly talk about.

Two days in the hospital
One evening I had high fever. My mother took me to the town hospital.
They sent me to the children's ward. There were many boys and girls. The
doctor was attending to them.I waited for some time. A nurse came with a
thermometer and took my temperature. Then the doctor put the stethoscope
on my chest and back. He felt my pulse and said, “You have fever.”
He asked the nurse to give me some mixture and tablets. He asked me
to drink a lot of water and liquids and rest on bed for two days.
I got well in two days. I thanked the doctor and the nurse. Then I
went home with my mother.

Happy Teacher’s Day!

Having superb talents within yourself,
And giving them to innocent students,
Purely, each and every matter you know,
Powerful thoughts and impressions too,
You give us from your kind heart.
Throughout the years you do this great mission,
Early in the morning you come to school,
And open your kind heart to take the great matters inside,
Cheerfully we take them to brighten the world,
Hence, you are the lamp of our dark room.
Enthusiasm is the order of the day.
Rarely some situations worry us Surprisingly you resolve them without
complaining.
Days dawn for every twenty-four hours,
And this is the special day of that all as,
Your day is today to pay our gratitude.
