Kandy SC rout CH and FC - 69/9

‘Kandy Sports Club started their campaign to regain the league title on a winning note when they thrashed a hapless CH and FC side by the huge Margin of 69 points (5 goals, 5 tries 3 penalties) to 9 (3 penalties) in their rugby league ‘A’ division tournament match played at the Nittawela stadium, Kandy yesterday. At half time Kandy SC led 33-6.

Kandy SC tested their 3 foreign playes in the very first match itself and they were very impressive especially their stand off New Zealand bornour FA Atony Pelaso Fili. Who kicked judiciously and converted the tries from difficult angles though missing two. compartively easy ones.

CH and FC took an early lead when full back Nalin Kumara converted a penalty early in the game.

Kandy equalised through a penalty put over by Pelaso File.
Another penalty put by Nalin Kumara put CH ahead once again leading 6-3.

It was in the 15th minute Kandy took the lead through a fine try by winger Anuraddha Wilwara which was converted by Pelaso Fiti.

Fran here onwards it was Kandy SC all the way and the visitors hardly putting any semblance of a fight and the home team punched holes in their defence at regular intervals.

In the 21st minute stand off converted a 58 metre penalty for Kandy which brought rounds of applause for the crowds.

In the 24th minute Kandy’s winger Wilware sent a pass to the left winger Lavanga Perera who made a blezing run to touds down by the left corner flag and stand off Pelaso Fili made a brilliant conversion for Kandy to leadt 23-6

Two minutes later No 8 Andrew Porter scored off a Maul which went unconverted. Kandy lead 28-6.

Just before the short blast winger Lavanga Perera scored off a three quarter movement for Kandy to lead 33-6.

In the 5th minute flanker Heshan de Silva cut through to score mid right Pelaso Fili added the extra points. Kandy led 40-6

Another penalty first by full back Nalin Kumara saw CH reduce the lead to 9-40.

Then came the best try of the match when Lavanga Perera ran nearly 55 meteres and scrum half Roshan Perera add the extras points. And Kandy led 47-9. In the seventeen minutes stand off Andrew Portar should a clean pair of heels to score for right which went unconverted Kandy 52-9.

In the 34th minute flanker Arshan Mohamed collecting a pass from Heshan de Silva cut through to score mid left and scram half Roshan Weeraratne goald it. Kandy 59-9.

Kandy scored two more tries through winger Dharshan Etipola and flanker Randika de Alvis to win by 69-9.
