Dear children,

Many of you must have heard about the Veddahs, our aboriginal people who are found in Dambana. Today in our pages we carry a story about an eminent person who lived with the Veddahs and wrote many books about them.

Recently we carried in the newspapers that the Veddahs were even playing cricket but they have done so in their traditional dress. Over time they have evolved to accept some of the modernities and were even going to school and educating themselves. In one way it is a good sign but if the Veddahs continue to modernise themselves there is a likelihood that at some point of time they might disappear without a trace.

Bye for now,

Aunty Merle.
