CCTVs to deal with transport problems

Moves are under way to set up CCTV cameras linking the Private Transport Services Ministry, National Transport Commission (NTC) and the Bastian Silva Mawatha Bus Terminal, Ministry Secretary Padmasiri Jayamanna said.

He said the new mechanism will be implemented under the directive and instructions of Private Transport Services Minister C.B. Ratnayake.

Problems and inconveniences caused to passengers at the Bastian Silva Mawatha Bus Terminal can be minimised this way.

The activities at the NTC and the Bastian Silva Mawatha Bus Terminal can be monitored simultaneously. Efficient services can thus be provided to passengers, Jayamanna said. The Minister has also instructed NTC officials to take immediate action regarding the needs of bus owners or drivers and conductors who come to them to get their matters attended to. The Minister also plans to use Skype technology to deal with complaints from passengers regarding private buses. Assistance would come from Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authorities to implement this program, he said.
