Army in thrilling 22-20 win over Up Country Lions
Sri Lanka Army notched up their second win in the Dialog (A) Division
League. Rugby tournament with a thrilling 22 points (two goals, one try,
one penalty) to 20 (two goals, two penalties) win over Up Country Lions
at Diyagama yesterday after tralling 7-10 at the breather.
Up Country Lions opened scoring through a try by No 8 Sasanka
Ariyaratne with full back Shanaka Kumara adding the extra points. Army
hit back through a try by their centre Jalebola Lalai which was
converted by skipper Asanka Perera. Jual before 'lemons' Shanaka Kumara
fired across a 30 metre penalty for Up Country Lions to give them a 10-7
lead at 'Lemons' After resumption the soldiers snatched the lead through
a try by hooker Asoka Jayalal converted by Utosko Kawa and Army led
14-10. Up country Lions snatched the lead once again through a try by
centre Rochana Hettiarachchi with Shanaka Kumara adding the extra points
and Up Country Lions led 17-14. They went a head further through a 25
metre penalty by Pera Gibbs to make it 20-14.
Then came Army's fight-back. Centre Jalabola Lalai scored an
unconverted try and just before the final whistle New Zealander Utosko
Kawa fired across a 35 metre penalty to give Army a thrilling 22-20 win
to the jubiliation of his team-mates.
