Sri Lanka host 2015 SAF Junior Championship in Colombo
The 2015 South Asian Federation Junior Under 20 Athletic Championship
has been scheduled to be held in Colombo. The inaugural SAF junior
Championship was held in Sri Lanka in 1987 and the islanders will be
hosting the event for the second time. The meet has been a a stepping
stone for young aspiring athletes when they compete at the senior level
in the SAF Games.
The Sri Lankan junior athletes fared reasonably well at the recently
concluded SAF Junior Meet held in Ranchi, India. The 40-member team won
ten gold medals and an equal number of silver and 14 bronze medals.
Viraj Randeniya of Ranabima MV, Peradeniya clocked 13.64 seconds in the
boys 110 metre hurdles and in the girls triple jump event Udeshi
Lakshani won it with leap of 12.68 metres.
