Love triangle ends in death
by Ananda Agalakada
A marriage ends, another is tested, jealousy appears, old feelings
are explored, new love blooms and to top it all off it could also end up
in death. Love can bring joy and at the same time sadness and tragedy.
The world is full of stories describing many facets of love, marriage
and sad and happy endings. This is one about love and marriage which
goes bad in a moment of madness which ultimately ends up in tragedy and
loss of lives.
Rohan, a handsome youth often dreamt of Rosi the most beautiful
damsel in the village. Although not known to the girl Rohan already had
created a future for them both in his dream world. Rosi, a teenager and
she did not know that the youth was paying attention to her. She was
from a poverty stricken family and education was her sole focus to come
out of it.
Her parents came from an ancestral pottery making family and engaged
in the trade given to them by their forefather whilst residing in
Hettipola.
Rohan too was a pottery maker and engaged in the trade to make a
living. In his spare time all his thoughts were on Rosi and he used to
follow her whenever he got a chance.
After many attempts one day Rohan drew up enough courage to express
her feelings to Rosi. Her first response was refusal. Rohan was
crestfallen and felt his dream world had shattered. However, after a
sleepless night he decided that he cannot give-up. He kept up the same
vigil from next day.
Affection
Finally after some time to his joy, Rosi agreed. The persistent
requests of the youth also had changed her mind and seeds of love and
affection started to blossom in her young heart.
The couple began to meet often and Rohan would shower gifts on her
whenever possible.
After the initial excitement it did not take long for Rohan to get
bored with his new life. Gradually he started drifting away from Rosi.
To fulfil the monotony in his life he developed a love affair with
another girl called Kamani. It did not take long for him to forget Rosi
and embrace Kamani whom he brought to his house without even a second
thought of the difficulties Rosi and parents would face. Rosi and the
parents of Rohan were helpless.
However, Rosi could not forget Rohan whom she was deeply in love
with. She told Rohan that she was ready to elope with him if he could
forget Kamani.
Complaint
It did not take long for Rohan to change his mind again and this time
it was Kamani who was at the receiving end. So Rohan started having
fights with Kamani which led to many brawls which had to be resolved by
his parents.
It was later revealed that Kamani was expecting at the time and she
had agreed to an abortion on the insistence of Rohan.
Kamani's parents had come to know about the difficulties of their
daughter. They could not take the daughter's unfortunate situation lying
down.
They came to Rohan’s house and admonished him.
Rosi's parents too came to know about these incidents and they
advised their daughter to stop the awkward love between Rosi and Rohan.
Although the parents reprimanded her she did not like to give up her
first love and she eloped with Rohan to his residence. She was still a
student at the time and she did not forget to bring her school books.
Later Rohan got married to Rosi secretly.
The parents of Rosi who had come to know about this had to come to
the Hettipola police and lodged a complaint against Rohan. In the result
of their complaint the IOC of the Hettipola police Athula Karunapala
summoned the two parties to the police to solve their problem.
Rosi too went to the police with her husband. After seeing her
parents it did not take long for Rosi to change her mind. She had her
own problems with Rohan during the short period she had stayed with her.
Eventhough she came to the police with her husband she left it with her
parents. Rohan was furious and confused.
After losing Rosi, Rohan began to consume liquor and started
gambling. Then overcome with grief and anger he finally decided to take
revenge from Rosi by killing her.
Rohan had waited outside Rosi's house one day and when she went to
the water pipe which was about 100 metres away he went after her and
hacked her with a sword. When the parents of Rosi rushed to the scene
hearing her cries it was too late. She was lying in a pool of blood at
the time. Rosi was taken to the Hettipola hospital by the parents with
the assistance of their neighbours. Later they came to know she was
transferred to the Kurunegala hospital in critical condition.
The police after receiving the complaint began a search for Rohan but
instead found his lifeless body hanging from a tree at Amunuhena
village.
