Union Assurance boost for Colts

When star cricketers are getting ready for the Sri Lanka's domestic cricket season, Union Assurance (UA), the country's trusted insurance service provider has therefore taken steps to support the Colombo Colts Cricket Club, one of the oldest and first class cricket clubs in the country.

Known as the 'Invincible Colts CC', the club housed the best English cricketers in olden Ceylon, and has proved that others are no match to it in club cricket scene today.

While having produced many Test players, the present team also promising stars, such as National Test captain and Colts skipper Angelo Mathews, Test seamer and Colts vice captain Nuwan Kulasekara, star all-rounder Thisara Perera, promising opener Kusal Janith Perera with nine other Sri Lanka capped players.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary and President, Colts Cricket Club, Nishantha Ranatunga said the club is happy to tie up with Union Assurance, where he had worked for eight years in the past.

"The Colts Club is delighted to welcome Union Assurance as the Club's team sponsor and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial association with them. It gives local clubs great strength when organisation step up to support young talent and we would like to invite more enterprises to join us and nurture sport to greater heights," he said.

Union Assurance's association with cricket has come in many forms and includes many great cricketers being part of workforce of the organisation during its tenure of 26 years in Lankan insurance field. During Sri Lanka's brilliant period of cricket in mid 90s, Sri Lanka'a World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga, legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, current national selector and Colts Vice President Chaminda Mendis, Eric Upashantha, national fast bowler and Colts vice president Chaminda Vaas had been working at Union Assurance, were among the participants with Colts players on Friday.
