Pension impersonators to be taken to task

Those who impersonate government pensioners and state employees who
indulge in malpractices would be dealt with severely from this year.
The Department of Pensions and the Ministry of Public Administration
and Home Affairs will deploy over 150 experienced investigators to nab
the offenders.
Instances when millions of public funds have been misappropriated
have been reported.
Director General of Pensions Sunil Hettiarachchi said that there are
539,000 pensioners at present and the government pays Rs. 140 billion on
pensions annually.
This pension bill amounts to 12.06 percent of the total government
revenue.
The Department of Pensions calls upon the public provide information
leading to pension misappropriations.
