Fertiliser distribution centres islandwide

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to set up fertiliser distribution centres and a fertiliser warehouses for all 554 Agrarian Service Centres throughout the island. This will streamline the existing system of distributing fertiliser and ensure that adequate fertiliser is supplied to farmers at the guaranteed price.

A spokesman for the Department of Agrarian Services said that approximately 750,000 metric tons of fertiliser are imported annually at a cost of over Rs. 50 billion. The Fertiliser subsidy has helped farmers to generate a higher income through farming. "Fertiliser subsidy has been granted to the farmers during past nine years. It has paid Rs. 6,600 billion to the private sector for the implementation of fertiliser subsidy program" the spokesman said.
