Reading habit promoted in NWP

One hundred and sevnty two Public Libraries have been set up in the
North Western Province by the Provincial Department of Local Government
in order to improve the reading habit among people. These libraries are
maintained by the local bodies in the respective areas.
According to Provincial Commissioner of Local Government W.M.M.B.
Weerasekara, there are 635,858 books on various subjects in the Public
Libraries in the Kurunegala district while there are 187,898 books in
the Public Libraries in the Puttalam district. “We have drawn up a plan
to encourage the writers in the Province. Under the plan a Rs. 10
million is allocated annually to purchase of books.
