THASL launches career guidance program

The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), in association with the
Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM) and Regional Hoteliers'
Associations has been carrying out a practical oriented career guidance
program in tourism for Advanced Level students.
This initiative has been carried out in Negombo, Kalutara and Galle
areas. Over 380 students have attended the program.
Past President, THASL, and coordinator of the program, Srilal
Miththapala gave an overview of the hotel industry and the different job
opportunities available.
Another Past President of THASL, Anura Lokuhetty said he started his
career in the hotel industry as a fresher from school after completing
the Advanced Level examination.
Heads of departments gave a quick overview of front office, food and
beverage, kitchen and house keeping operations with a practical site
visit at the same venue.
The inaugural program in Negombo was hosted by Jetwing Blue, while
the Kalutara program was hosted by Royal Palms Beach Hotel and the deep
south program at the Lighthouse Hotel.
The active participation of Regional Hotel Associations helped to
make this program a success. The entire logistics and other behind the
scene arrangements was done by the ITHM. |
