No PC candidates at school ceremonies

The Elections Commissioner has informed the Education Ministry not to invite the contestants in Provincial Council elections in Western and Southern Provinces, to take part in annual school sportsmeets.

The Elections Commissioner sed that if such candidates are invited it is an election offence for such candidates to take part in such public events.

The school buildings too should not be permitted for election propaganda campaigns in the event, the candidates violate the provisions of election law, the police will take steps to prosecute them, said W.M. Balasooriya, Director of Education, Kurunegala at a meeting of school principals in the NWP at Bingiriya MMV, Kurunegala recently.
