Air-conditioned trains to Pallai

The Railway Department launched an air-conditioned train service to Palai from the Colombo Fort Railway station from last Friday, Commercial Superintendent of Sri Lanka Railway Department D.W.S. Sisira Kumara told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

He said that the train will leave the Colombo Fort Station at 2.45 p.m. and reach Palai at 8.20 p.m. in nearly six hours.

The train will leave the Palai station the following morning at 6.50 a.m. and return to Colombo around 12.50 p.m.

He said that a one-way journey will cost Rs. 1,400. Seats can be reserved within 45 days prior to the date of journey. Passenger who wish to travel to Colombo from Jaffna can have tickets reserved at the Mobitel Office in Jaffna. The train with its six compartments will stop at Anuradhapura, Vavuniya and Palai stations. There are 220 adjustable seats which provide comfort for the passenger during the long journey.Four air-conditioned compartments have been provid for the Udarata Menike and Podi Menike, with two compartments in each train, he said.
