Battle of the Golds ends in a draw

The 64th annual 'big match' between Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa
and St.Sebastian's College ended in a tame draw at the De Soysa Park,
Moratuwa yesterday.
In reply to the sebastianites first
innings score of 220 the Cambrians were 156 for 3 and went on to make
221 for 9 declared. The Sri Lanka Under 19 captain Kusal Mendis who was
unbeaten on 80 overnight added only nine runs when he was caught by
Sangeeth Cooray off his under 19 team mate Anuk Fernando for 89.
The Sebastianites in their second essay were all out for 221 with
Kusal Lakthilleka top with 40. There were useful contributions were
coming from the bats of Shan Fernando (39), Avishka fernando (36) and
Isuru Mendis (27). Thilan Nimesh claimed 4 for 88 to finish with a match
bag of 8 for 129. At close Prince of Wales in their second innings were
32 for 2 with Kusal Mendis 28 striking four sixes and a boundary off an
over from Lahiru Heshan.
