By Hafiz Marikar
Tarinda Ratwatte guided the present boys to beat the Old Boys led by
2012 skipper Kanil Senavirthne , in their annual game which was played
last evening at the Pallekelle Rugby Stadium. The winners were presented
with the A.G. Fraser trophy. Present Boys scored 21 points against the
Old Boys 17.
The Present Boys eight played a fine, bit of rugby, where they
handled the ball well and also tackled fiercely several occasions to
halt the Old boys from scoring. It was good rugby most of the time the
ball was handled.
The day was high standard of rugby, were all age group teams were
seen in action and the rugby on show was excellent. What ever the secret
of its recent appeal rugger has always been the most popular game at
Trinity since it was introduced in 1906. There was under 11, 12, 13, 14,
16 , 17 these matches were between Trinity and Vidyartha, Trinity won
all the games, then in the 2^nd XV with St.Thomas' Matale that too
Trinity won. The two schools Vidyartha and St.Thomas' came on invitation
to grace their rugby day.
This time they will be opening the season with the game against D.S.
Senanayake College on Friday March 21 at Pallekelle Stadium. Thee are in
the 'A' division group II - with schools like Wesley, Royal, St.
