Dear children,

Many of you will celebrate Vesak which falls on May 14. This day is
of significance to Buddhists because the Buddha who is a great teacher
to mankind was born on this day. He also attained Enlightenment and
passed away on a Vesak full moon poya day. It is a thrice blessed day
and many Buddhists will go to temple to observe sil and pay obeisance to
the Buddha. It is also a day when many dansalas will be held all over
the island and free food and drink will be served. The streets will be
decorated with pandals and beautiful lanterns. It is indeed a sight to
behold. Children, look around and see the beautiful lanterns and the
decorted streets but keep in mind the significance of this blessed day.
Bye for now
