Methodist College wins awards
Methodist College Colombo were the winners of the prestigious annual
Inter-School Drama Competition organised by the Interact Club of Royal
College Colombo .

A scene from the play |
Their original play was intense and deeply personal, evolving during
practices from their own experiences and pressures.
Titled 'Desert Places' (after the poem by Robert Frost) it portrays a
mental institution and the experiences of its inmates.
The issues are understated and not vocalised but have to be envisaged
by the audience from the cryptic utterances of the characters.
The acting was powerful and painful to watch. It is a compliment to
their acting that there was pin drop silence during their performance in
an otherwise restless auditorium of school- going children.
Apart from winning the award for Best Performance, they also won the
following awards:
Best Male Portrayal - Tashyana Handy Best Female supporting actress-
Ayesha Ameen, won jointly with Rhythmika Karunadara of Ananda College,
Colombo. Most Memorable performance of the evening- R.A.Surami Nethmini.
The other two schools in the finals were Ladies College, Colombo,
which performed an adaptation of two short stories by Roald Dahl and St.
Joseph's College Colombo which presented a segment from Shakespeare' s
Macbeth.
Shalini Corea of Ladies' College won the Best Female Portrayal and
Amrith Senaratne of St. Joseph's College won the Best Supporting Male
Portrayal.
