'Blessed are the mothers that give unto the world'...
'Blessed are the mothers that give unto the world such wondrous sons
like him'.The very best, praiseworthy and lordly, a tribute one can hail
a mother with. I seized this caption from a book, Pope Francis, Hope for
Christian Unity by Gwen Herat who passionately showers praise on the
mother of Bishop Valence Mendis in a caption under his photograph that
is featured in this text.
Anything more appropriate than this praise on mothers as we all over
the world celebrate on Mothers' day, today? No, it is so perfect and
will light up the hearts of all mothers, rich or poor.
I lost my mother as a teenager and with that, I lost my best friend I
had in this world where no one could have filled the void. She was
someone I leaned upon and cry my worries away.
Someone on whose shoulders I wept without shame when I crashed my
exams and my first love soured and left me when I was so young but she
is gone.
Gone forever but not from my memory though I have adult Children on
whom I can never be the mother she was to me I still feel the gentle
care around me.
'Blessed are the mothers that give unto the world such wondrous sons
like him'.What magnificent tribute from one of our popular writers.
She hits the nail right on target and make us all exuberant and I
trust I am permitted to quote these lines but how many mothers are
blessed with such wondrous sons like Bishop Mendis?
On this mothers' Day, how many mothers are happy and how many are sad
tucked away in homes for the old by the very children they brought to
the world.
How many hearts are shattered and how many mothers in tears around in
our country and around the world, neglected and forgotten.
Mother, it is the most wondrous word in the world and today being
Mothers' day which bring into our memories all the loving care,
sacrifice and unlimited love showered on us by our splendid mothers
whose faces reflects on us today.
The tenderness with the moulded our lives in righteous path without
anything denied in sickness or in health, is Mother. We pay our
gratitude to these gracious women. Perhaps the most sacrificial mother
would have been Mary, mother of Jesus whose heart would have rendered
apart at the sight of her son hanging on the cross breathing his last.
We must thank Mary for showing us the way.
