The Western Provincial Council will recruit those who had graduated
before 2011 as Development Assistants and teachers to solve the
unemployment problem among graduates, a spokesman for the Western
Provincial Council told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranathunga has taken this
decision following a proposal of Budget 2014 to recruit those who had
graduated before 2011 to the public service this year.
The Western Provincial Council had provided jobs to over 12,000
unemployed graduates in the province during the past four-and-a-half
years and absorbed them into the government service as Teachers and
Development Assistants.
It recruited 7,500 graduates as teachers after conducting a
examination in 2011.According to the Chief Minister these appointments
were made to unemployed graduates apart from the 45,000 appointments by
the Government for unemployed graduates around the country. The Western
Provincial Council will call for applications from graduates soon to
recruit them as teachers.
