WP Chief Minister suspends decision

Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranathunga has suspended a decision by the Provincial Council to put all the non academic staff in the provincial schools, under school assistants category after considering the views expressed by a section of non academic school staff, a spokesman to the Western Provincial Council said. He said the there are about 2000 non academic staff in the schools comes under the Western Provincial Council at present and school labourers, sanitary workers, lab assistants and library assistants comes under this category.

The library assistants and the lab assistants have pointed out that it will be unfair by them if all these workers put under one category of service as library assistants and lab assistants come under the same category with the sanitary workers and labourers.

“Therefore the Chief Minister suspend the decision to put all the categories of non academic staff under one category until the problem is fully addressed”, the spokesman added.
