Six female workers hospitalised after wasp attack

Six female workers engaged in clearing a shrubbery land in an estate in Imbulpe in Balangoda were hospitalised in a serious condition following a wasp attack yesterday morning, the police said.

The victims who came under the wasp attack around 8.00am were rushed to Balangoda Hospital by the people in the area. They all showed multiple sting wounds.

According to Police Spokesman the strong winds prevailed in the area believed to have roused the wasp nests. This was the third consecutive incident reported during the past three days.

On Friday nine tea pluckers were hospitalised following a wasp attack in a tea estate in Norwood while over 150 local and foreign tourists came under attack in Sigiriya on Thursday.

The officials believe that due to the windy weather prevails at present result in wasps to rouse in their nests.
