Mobitel to introduce cutting-edge technology

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day which fell on May 17, is held annually to raise awareness on the new possibilities created through the use of the internet and other information and communication technology on a global scale.

Mobitel will introduce cutting-edge mobile technology that would help shape the next phase of ICT technology development in Sri Lanka, a company spokesman said.

The company will advance its internet and broadband services and introduce ICT applications to facilitate development in the public and private sectors and promote sustainable development.

Mobitel acting CEO Kapila Chandrasena said, "To converge on global trends and advancements in technology, Mobitel hopes to further enhance its scope and quality driven objectives to provide a better service to customers."

"We expect our presence in the telecommunications industry would be far bigger and more dominant, as we hope to move forward with the commitment to transform the telecommunications landscape in the country and leap beyond the ordinary and achieve the extraordinary," he said.

Since Mobitel launched operations in 1993, the telecom giant has invested over US $ 500 million and continues to be deeply committed to upgrading its network. The company which has 3,500 base stations islandwide will add 1,800 more base stations to reach 100% coverage.

The company's strategy is positioned around value innovation and customer centricity which is achieved through the development of new technology, distribution systems, product portfolios and value added services with increased focus on customer needs and interests through optimum levels of service quality and delivery.

Mobitel has had several direct partnerships with Ministries and partnered with a number of government institutions to provide quality services to the public. The company's strong relationship with the government has enabled Mobitel to make a significant contribution in crucial areas such as healthcare, education, transport and water supply by combining its expertise in communications and information technology in various sectors to serve the people.

The company's relationship with the business community too has remained unparalleled with successful joint ventures with a diverse number of local and international brands.

These include supermarket chains and top corporates with which Mobitel has maintained a dedicated relationship.
