'Unexplored trade opportunities in Indonesia'

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the Annual Members Night 2014 at the Hilton.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Sri Lanka, Harimawan Suyitno was also present.

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council (SLIBC) was inaugurated in August 1991, under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to promote trade, investment, services and tourism between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Director and General Manager, ISIN Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., Jatinder Biala is the President of SLIBC.

Biala said that Indonesia is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and potentially important and unexplored opportunities are available to the business community in terms of trade and investment.

The forthcoming Joint Commission between Sri Lanka and Indonesia was also highlighted by the president.

Biala said the SLIBC was a link in improving and strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia and in developing new initiatives.

He said the Business Council was committed to support the activities of the Indonesian Embassy and expressed his satisfaction with regard to the support consistently extended by the embassy.

Biala said there has been a steady growth in the active corporate membership of the Business Council in the recent past.

The ambassador said that it is vital to promote business relations between the two countries and joint efforts could be initiated to achieve the anticipated bilateral trade targets between the two nations which will be meticulously scrutinised by the Joint Commission 2014.

The networking evening was attended by over 75 members.
