Winner: Healthy mind in a healthy body

A healthy body is important for everybody. Similarly we need a
healthy mind.
Sufficient exercises, waking up early, taking nutritional food and
following the doctor’s instructions contributes to protect our body.
Breakfast is our main meal. It helps us to maintain a healthy body. But
some children and teenagers skip breakfast.
We are students. We go to school and learn many subjects. We have to
maintain a healthy mind. We can do many activities to maintain a healthy
mind. We can listen to songs and watch television programs. These
activities can make a good, healthy mind.

Winner: Sports and games for a healthy life

Good food, sleep and rest are important for a healthy life. Another
important factor is physical exercise. We must either work hard or do
sports and games for physical exercise. Sports and games keep our bodies
healthy and fit. Thereby we can also have a healthy mind. Football,
cricket, volleyball and hockey are team games. All players have to play
their part well in a match. Therefore, sports and games help us to work
as a team.
Man sometimes is selfish, proud and rude. We can be proud of our
talents in sports, but at the same time we must learn to recognise,
admire and appreciate the talents of others. We shake hands with our
opponents, congratulate them and wish them well. This will go a long way
in our lives. Sports and games are essential for everyone. I think
everybody should do sports and games in life.

Snakes
There
are more than 2,700 species of snakes in the world. They live in
deserts, oceans, streams and lakes. Some people have the impression that
all snakes are poisonous but that is not true.
There are poisonous snakes, pet snakes, amazing snakes and unusual
snakes. I fancy the Boa Constrictor, Taipan and the Eastern brown snake.
One out of 14,000 of an ounce of the Eastern brown snake is strong
enough to kill an adult human.
The most amazing pet snake is the Cornsnake. This is commonly seen in
Eastern countries. They exhibit the most amazing colours seen on earth.
I love watching movies, cartoons and television programs that exhibit
snakes.

A visit to Logos Hope ship
I visited the Logos Hope ship with my family last year, when it came
to Sri Lanka. My father bought tickets for us and we all entered the
ship.
The ship was introduced by interactive displays and short movies.
There were many books on various subjects and stationery items. My
mother bought many story books for me. Some books were given free. After
buying books we went to the International Cafe which had ice cream,
drinks and snacks. We took many photographs.
I enjoyed myself a lot in the Logos Hope ship. I will never forget
the visit.

Winner: The Eiffel Tower

There are many marvellous places in the world. We can consider the
Eiffel Tower as one of the most beautiful structures in the world. It is
one of the great wonders in the world.
The Eiffel Tower is in Paris. The Tower was built by Engineer
Alexander Gustave Eiffel in 1889. He was born in 1832 and died in 1923.
To honour engineer, Alexander Gustave Eiffel, the tower was named
‘Eiffel.’ The tower stands serenely in Champ de Mars, on the southern
bank of River Seine.
The landmark was originally built as an entrance arch for the World
Fair which was held in Paris in May 1889.The iconic monument was built
with the cooperation of 300 workers for two years. The Eiffel Tower was
the tallest structure in the world for 40 years. Many people visit the
tower.
The tower was made using 15,000 iron pieces, 2.5 million rivets and
it required 40 tonnes of paint. The estimated weight of the tower was
8.56 million kilograms.
The Eiffel Tower is one of the most historic landmarks and a symbol
of France.

A tribute to my father
You taught me the correct path of life,
Step by step I learnt to live by myself

According to your precious advice,
You always tried to make me happy,
Even now you're doing your best for my happiness.
Everyday you loved to see the sweet smile on my lips,
You gave me all the things that I asked,
Every time I succeed,
I saw your delight from your glittering eyes.
I learnt a lot about life,
From your priceless advice,
Your devotion always made me strong,
I think we have a bond joined by a golden chain,
That can never be separated.
You taught me how to win the world,
By facing challenges,
I know you too have many dreams,
Don't be afraid,
All your dreams would come true.
Everyday you fed me with,
Good and enjoyable things,
You are the power of my life,
Without you my life would be dark.
You always admired my talent,
Your appreciation encouraged me,
I think that you are the best father,
Among all the fathers in the world,
I love you my dear dad!

An
educational excursion
We went to Kandy on an educational excursion from school on August
30. I went with my friends and teachers by bus.
Kandy is a historic city. The Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the
sacred Tooth Relic is situated in Kandy. It is an important place for
Buddhists.
As we went there, I saw huge tuskers and beautiful sceneries. We
worshipped the sacred Tooth Relic.
We returned to school at around 2 p.m. We enjoyed the excursion.
