Poetry slam
The
great poet Khalil Gibran said, "Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and
wonder, with a dash of the dictionary, "A poetry slam is a competition
at which poets read or recite original work.
The American Center hosted 'Poetry Slam - Season XVJ recently at the
American Centre Auditorium under age 12 and Nabeel Abdul Barry of Wesley
College, Colombo was the winner of this season XVJ and received his
certificate from Dawn Suni of Cultural Affairs Officer U.S. Embassy Sri
Lanka and the Maldives.
The poets enthralled the audience with emotional presentations of
their original works. They covered various themes based on performers'
feelings and experience. U.S. Embassy's Cultural Affairs Officer Dawn
Suni compered the event. On behalf of the American Center, she presented
certificates and gifts to the winners at the end of the program.

The American Center will continue to serve as a platform especially
for talented young Sri Lankans to express themselves freely and
creatively by hosting an ongoing series.
