Casual teachers to be made permanent

There are 1,236 government schools functioning under 8 educational zones in the North Western Province.

437 teacher assistants working at these schools on a casual basis would be absorbed into permanent cadre in the very near future.

The NWP-PC has decided to recruit another 97 teacher assistants in due course to be employed at very remote schools in Kurunegala and Puttalam districts.

As the Chief Minister of the NWP, I have received the assistance and blessings of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for implementing these proposed teacher recruitments and making those who are on casual basis to be permanent in their present posts under Sri Lanka Teachers' Service, said CM Dayasiri Jayasekara at a meeting of school heads of the Kurunegala district held recently at Panduwasnuwara community centre of Kurunegala.

He also said that existing shortage of teachers in remote schools of the NWP would be solved using human resources available within Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the NWP and standards of education would be promoted to cater to the needs of student population with the guidance of experienced scholars in the NWP, the Chief Minister said.
