Poetry Slam at American Center

The 'Season XVII' of the 'Open Mic Poetry Slam' contest will be held on Thursday, May 29 at the American Center auditorium at Galle Road, Colombo 3. The contest has been a huge hit at the American Center since its inception in 2012.

At each slam, contestants enthrall the audience with their performances reminiscent of open-mic poetry slams in the United States. Winners are awarded with certificates, prizes and free lifetime membership to the American Center Library in Colombo and to American Corners in Kandy and Jaffna.

The ground rules to compete in the event are simple:

All work must be original; All ages may participate and can share poetry in any local language (English/Sinhala or Tamil).

The American Center will continue to serve as a platform for talented Sri Lankans to express themselves freely and creatively by hosting an ongoing series of poetry slam competition every other month. Youth are encouraged to participate.
