Death of ex Daily News Deputy Editor
Senior journalist and former Deputy Editor of Daily News, from
1999-2002 Hilary Rajakarunanayake died at the age 78. He was also the
Daily News correspondent for Ratmalana for several years.
An old boy of St.Joseph's College, Colombo and a student of Aquinas
University College, Rajakarunanayake had a regular feature in the Daily
News on English translations of popular and quality Sinhala songs.
He was married to the late Ethel Rajakarunanayake, a teacher at
St.Mary's School, Dehiwela. He leaves his son Dr. Yasantha (USA) and
daughters Dr. Nishani Gunasekera (USA) and Thilani Bastians (Australia).
He was the brother of journalist and columnist Lucien
Rajakarunanayake, teacher and former Vice-Principal of Bishop's College,
Colombo Shirani, and author and translator Nihal.
The funeral took place at the Roman Catholic Section of the Borella
Cemetery, yesterday.

The Ajahn Brahm Society Sri Lanka will make the best use of Ajahn
Brahamavamso's short stay during the Poson period with a series of
Dhamma talks and discussions in and around Colombo and in the South.
'Talent Search 2014'
The Interact Club of Royal College will present 'Talent Search 2014',
a talent- based competition. This project is a unique platform where
Colombo youth will get the opportunity to showcase their talent to a
large audience while at the same time enjoy themselves.
“ With the involvement of more schools and institutions, we also plan
to widen the scope of youth and provide them with the opportunity to get
to know more renowned personalities in the performance industry. This
will help them to develop talent and will expose them to the world of
performance' , a spokesman said.
Auditions will be held on June 13 and 14. The finals will be held on
o July 4 at the Navarangahala, Royal College.

Exhibition of Chinese Paintings
A two-day exhibition of Chinese traditional paintings organised by
the Association of Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural Cooperation (ASLCSCC)
with the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign
Countries (BPAFFC) and the Visual Art Faculty of the University of
Visual and Performing Arts will be held at the J.D.A. Perera Art Gallery
of the Visual Arts Faculty Horton Place, Colombo 7. The opening ceremony
will be held on May 26 at 10.00 a.m. Minister of National Heritage
Jagath Balasuriya will be the chief guest. Acting Ambassador of the
Embassy of the People's Republic of China Ren. Faqiang and Dean of
Visual Art Faculty of the University of Visual Art and Performing Arts
Prof. Sarath Chandrajeewa will be the guests of honour.
Medical clinic for differently -abled on May 26
Differently abled students of the Kalutara Educational Zone will be
examined by doctors, at a special medical clinic organised by the
Kalutara Educational Office, on 26th May from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at
Chandrasekara special school, Horethuduwa, Moratuwa.
Kalutara Zonal Education office has arranged this special medical
program to uplift the Health and nutritional level of disabled children
in the Kalutara Educational Zone, under the instructions of the Kalutara
zonal Director Ms. O.M.V. Priyani Mudalige.
