The proposals that were approved at the
National Conference of the National Freedom Front (NFF) were
presented to President Mahinda Rajapakasa by NFF leader
Wimal Weerawansa at Temple Trees yesterday. The President
discussed the proposals with Weerawansa andsaid that he
would further discuss with senior members of the SLFP. He
said that he would not hesitate to take political and
economic decisions that would benefit the country. Ministers
Susil Premajayantha and Dullas Alahapperuma, Deputy
Ministers Weerakumara Dissanayake and Piyasiri Wijenayake

A Vesak festival was held at UNESCO
headquarters in Paris recently. It concluded with a cultural
display. Representatives from Sri Lanka, Mongolia,
Bangladesh, Vietnam, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia and China
took part in the events. The chief guests were First Lady
Shiranthi Rajapaksa and President's Secretary Lalith

The Governor of Southern Province Dr.
Kumari Balasuriya being accompanied to the Council premises

Dominican Republic fetes Prof. Munasinghe
Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, who shared the
2007 Nobel Prize for Peace, was recently felicitated by
President Danilo Medina of the Dominican Republic, while
accepting his widely recognised book on ‘Sustainomics'.
President Medina sought the advice of Prof. Munasinghe on
how to rehabilitate and clean up the heavily polluted Ozama
River which flows through the capital city of Santo Domingo.
Prof. Munasinghe is the Chairman, Munasinghe Institute for
Development (MIND), Colombo, KIVA Professor of Sustainable
Development at Darmstadt University, Germany and a guest
professor at the Peking University, China.
