Frolicking

With the influx of tourists into the country, the coastline is inundated with tourists. Here two children enjoy the sun and sand at Arugam Bay in Pottuvil. Incidentally the word Arugam Bay was coined after King Kelanitissa sent his daughter on a canoe to protect the country from a tsunami. The storm tossed the boat and she landed at the spot where Muhudu Maha Vihara in Pottuvil is built. King Kavantissa was the ruling king at that time and went in search of the princess as soon as he heard the news .

The villagers had pointed in the direction of the village of Pottuvil and the temple and said Aragamey. This word has now turned into the popular Arugam Bay.
