BoC helps in dengue eradication program
The Bank of Ceylon (BoC) took a lead role in the dengue prevention
awareness campaign conducted at schools island wide on Saturday.
The epidemic has re-emerged in most parts of the country causing a
number of tragic incidents. One of the potential causes for this
resurgence is the clutter and untidiness of the environment, caused
through a negligent attitude.
This is the second consecutive year that the Bank of Ceylon took part
in initiatives of this nature as proper education and surveillance is
essential to keep the public continuously alert on this resurgence.
Over 600 branches of the bank organised dengue prevention shramadana
campaign in selected schools covering all districts.
Each campaign was organised by BoC branch members with the parents of
the schoolchildren, police, Public Health Inspectors, and officials of
local authorities. The aim was to destroy mosquito breeding grounds in
each of the selected schools.
Dengue prevention posters were displayed at schools and public places
to create further awareness of the epidemic.
The BoC Ran Kekulu children's savings account covers medical
insurance coverage for 10 critical illnesses including dengue. The
insurance scheme pays Rs. 600 per day up to 30 days at a government
hospital or provides cover for medical bills up to a maximum of
Rs.100,000 at a private hospital. This is a task in which all
stakeholders in society should actively participate to eradicate this
plague from the country, a bank spokesman said. |
