NPC talks to enhance closer coordination
By P. Krishnaswamy
The entire nine-member cabinet of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC)
will meet Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister
Dr.Rajitha Senaratne in Colombo for discussions, Fisheries Minister of
the NPC Balasubramaniam Daniswaran told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
This is sequel to an assurance by the Minister last week at the
Provincial Fisheries Ministers’ conference on enhanced interaction and
coordination between the centre and the provinces.
While the NPC will hold discussions and seek a solution at other fora
on their ‘rights issues’, they wish to work with the central government
ministries on all development matters, Daniswaran said, adding that
their discussions with Minister Senaratne will be centered on this.
The Fisheries Ministries of the centre and the province have also
reached a consensus on working jointly to resolve the poaching issue and
he would accompany the Ministry delegation that would leave for India by
the end of the month for further talks on the issue with the Indian
authorities, Minister Daniswaran said. |
