Navayugaya souvenir to mark the 2014 Soccer World Cup
The happy and sad memories linked to the 2014 world soccer showpiece,
concluded recently, are still lingering in the minds of football fans.
While the Germans are celebrating their grand victory the Argentinians
are weeping and feeling dejected.
To make this memorable event a monumental experience and also to
freeze them in the minds of the football fans the Navayugaya, the
monthly magazine published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd
has put out a colourful and comprehensive souvenir to mark this
unforgettable annual sports event.
Packed with impressive action photographs, details of each
participating team - the captain, coaches and star players - the
souvenir also features the numerous stadiums where the matches are
played, history of the World Cup and also prominent personalities and
events to this event.
Have you heard of a musical instrument called Caxirola? This musical
instrument was designed in 2012 by the famous musician Carlinhos Brown
especially for 2014 World Cup. Unfortunately it could not be used during
this tournament as it was banned by the Brazilian Sports Ministry. This
is one of the interesting facts found in this souvenir.
Another fact found is about the ball that was used in every match. It
is produced in Sialkot, Pakistan by Addidas and is called Addidas
Brasuca. It weighs 437 grammes and has a circumference of 69 cm.
To construct and refurbish the stadium and also other infrastructure
facilities Brazil had to spend over 14 billion US dollars to stage this
event.
The image of the official mascot is another interesting feature in
it. Named Fuleco it is designed to look like the Brazilian Armadillo.
In addition to these details the souvenir also carries a concise
history of all the world cup tournaments played so far.
