New weigh bridge to nab offenders

The Director, Planning Road Development Authority (RDA), H.M.K.K.G. Bandara has introduced a new weigh bridge to check the overload of sand and other hard material transported by lorries from Mahiyanganaya to different parts of the island on the Kandy -Mahiyangana Padiyathalawa (A26) road. It will help the public to reduce expenditure on those material transportation as they spend much money especially on sand transport via Randenigala at present.

The new weigh bridge will measure the axle weight of the lorry with the sand and indicate the overweight of the sand.

Sending a lorry through the weigh bridge can minimise the damage caused to the road while transporting sand and other hard material on this road. However most of the lorry drivers are not pleased with this introduction of new machine as the remedy to their problem.

They complain that this new weigh bridge cuts down the capacity of their loading sand which results in a great loss economically. However they strongly request the government to open the Kandy - Mahiyangana road for their Lorries.
