Ice cream made from banned milk brands
by Dhaneshi Yatawara
Banned brands of powdered milk containing dicyandiamide (DCD), were
re-sent to consumers indirectly. According to Research and Technology
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka these milk powder varieties were
detected in ice cream that was distributed at 'danselas' during the
Poson season.
The Minister revealed this at the press conference held yesterday to
mark the 'Nutrition walk' organised by the Industrial Technology
Institute (ITI) for the Nutrition Month which falls in July.
Testing conducted by the ITI have shown that certain brands of milk
powder that were banned were used to manufacture the ice cream that was
distributed in several 'danselas' which were frequented by many people
during Poson. Minister Ranawaka said that the ITI authorities have
handed over the report to the health authorities. |
