Old Bens celebrate July Breeze 2014
Old Benedictines over 60 years of age celebrated the annual July
Breeze 2014 at Palm Garden Hotel, Uswetakeiyawa. It was a memorable
re-union for the 200 old boys, as some travelled from their domiciled
countries across the globe.
Another facet of this picnic-social is that it was open to spouses,
partners and carers. July Breeze 2014 is the precursor for the 150th
anniversary of St. Benedict's College, Colombo 13 next year. The day's
proceedings began with the National Anthem followed by the opening
prayer by the primary principal Rev. Bro. Bonaventure. The Director,
Rev. Bro. Janaka Fonseka stressed the need to strengthen the bonds to
mark the 150th anniversary of the college next year.
The Convenor of JB2014 was Old Ben John N.L.C. Fernando, an engineer
by profession assisted by a dedicated 20-member multi-disciplinary
committee. Fourteen meetings were conducted with the novel telecon
conference technology.
Three senior long service teachers who had retired, J.F.
Jegarajasingham, Wilfred Perera and Randy Ratnayake were also present.
Thanks to the sponsors, it was possible to invite the Old Bens Clergy
comprising De La Salle Brothers and priests and also provide
scholarships to needy students.
Old Ben Lal Wickramatunga reminisced the past and commended the good
work done towards the uplift of the college.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Old Ben Peter De Almeida. |
