Help save Rikkasa's life
Fathima Rikkasa (12) of Jinnapuram, Alankuda, Ekkalai is suffering
from Leukaemia. Doctors treating her have recommended a bone marrow
transplant to save her life. Rikkasa's father A.M. Shammi Gaffoor says
the surgery to be done in India costs nearly Rs. 2.5 million.
The President's Fund had released Rs. 125,000 for the purchase of an
infusion pump.
But her father is unable to find the funds for the surgery. He
appeals to the generous public to assist his daughter's cause by sending
their financial contributions to help save her life.

AGM of Jaffna Central OBA on Aug 31
The Annual General Meeting of the Jaffna Central College Old Boys'
Association [Colombo Branch] will be held on August 31 at 6.30 pm at the
Global Towers Hotel, Marine Drive, Colombo 6. The AGM will be followed
by fellowship and dinner.

'Festival of Choirs 2014' on Aug 1
The Ceylon Bible Society will commemorate the 202nd anniversary with
the 'Festival of Choirs 2014' on Friday, August 1 at 5.15 p.m. at the
Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The participating choirs will be Bishop's College, St. Benedict's
College, Stafford International School, Trinity College, Sacred Heart
Church, Rajagiriya, Living Way Church, Nugegoda, St. Peter's Church,
Korawella and the Cantus Choir.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on 'The movement of thought and becoming'
delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at
the Anula Nursery School hall, High Level Road, Colombo 6 today at 9.45
a.m.
It is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
MMR 2014 on July 26
The Maris Stella College Old Boys Association (OBA) organised the
first Maris Motor Rally in 2009 for all Maristonians. This was a success
and became the most sort after motor sports event in Negombo every year
there on. This has now become an event of high magnitude in the Gampaha
District with a lot of demand for participation due to the fun, thrill
and other attractive prizes such as air tickets to the winners.
The OBA continued to organise the Maris Motor Rally annually adding
more attractions and features to cater to the increasing numbers of
participants. This has now become a family event.
This year the Maris Motor Rally 2014 with the signature tag line 'MMR
2014 - the best is yet to come' will begin at 7 am on July 26 at the
college premises for the sixth consecutive year.
The organising committee is ready with a challenging rally route and
several prizes and surprises for the 60 participants who register on
time. The committee regrets the inability to entertain late entries due
to time constraints.
The awards ceremony and the fellowship entertainment will be held on
the same day as a mega beach party at the Jetwing Blue, Negombo. The
evening will be powered by the live band 'Doctor' and performances by
leading artistes such as Bathiya, Santhush, Ashanthi, Randir and Umaria.
"Abimani 2013" on July 23
Kolomthota Kala Punaroodaya "Abimani 2013" awards ceremony will be
held on July 23 at 3.00 pm at the National Youth Services Council
Auditorium under the patronage of Sinhala Cultural Institute Chairman
and Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaranatunga and Colombo District
Secretary Kamal Padmasiri.
Media workshop on 23 July
The Information Department will hold a one day workshop on 'Social
Reconciliation and use of Media', on Wednesday at 9.30 a.m. at its Media
Development Centre under the patronage of Mass Media and Information
Minister, Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella.
Economic Development Minister, Basil Rajapaksa will be the chief
