Sri Lanka women advance to the Super Eight for the first time
Sri Lanka women's volleyball team qualified to the Super Eight for
the first time at the 17th Asian Junior Women's Volleyball Championship
which is being held in Chinese Taipei.
The Sri Lanka junior women's volleyball team qualified for the Super
Eight of this Championship by beating Iran 3 sets to 1. Although this
championship was inaugurated in 1984, Sri Lanka entered the fray only in
1986. In 2011 at the 15th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
held in Iran, the Sri Lanka senior men's volleyball team qualified for
the Super Eight finals, but this is the first time that a Sri Lanka
women's volleyball team has qualified in a tournament of this nature and
it should go down in the volleyball history of Sri Lanka.
The following countries are participating in the championship, are
Chinese Taipei, Iran, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Thailand, Japan, India,
Korea, Turkmenistan, Australia, Hong Kong and Macau.The Sri Lanka
women's volleyball team will now meet Japan and India in the next stage
of the tournament. |
