United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is visiting Haiti. He has he met with senior government officials to discuss ways of reducing poverty and improving healthcare.

Ban Ki-moon has helped launch a program to improve sanitation, and to fight the spread of cholera by improving hygiene in rural areas.Ă“Under the leadership of President Martelly, and with a strong intervention, the number of new cases of cholera and death has shown the lowest in the last several months. This is a quite remarkable achievement."

The UN has been working with the government to fight an outbreak of cholera, which began in 2010 following a devastating earthquake. However, the outbreak is the subject of three lawsuits in US courts, including one filed this year by nearly 1,500 Haitians seeking compensation from the UN.
