Seminar on 'Chinese testing standards'
Sri Lanka is in the process of negotiating a Free Trade pact with
China. Apparel and footwear are the key sectors that are expected to
benefit from such an arrangement. An area of concern to the exporter is
the stringent testing standards adopted by the Chinese authorities.
Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association with SGS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, an
inspection, verification, testing and certification company, will hold a
seminar to educate exporters on the Chinese testing standards at the
Hilton Colombo Residencies on August 5.
Global Technical Director of SGS, Dr Jane Jiang will visit Sri Lanka
to conduct this half-day session which will give an insight to exporters
on the mandatory needs.
Dr Jiang, a member of the Textile Environmental Committee of China,
has nearly 30 years' experience in the textile industry and has taught
textile chemistry in several universities in northeast and central
China.
Her areas of strength include studying the structure and properties
of high molecule materials, development of new technology and
auxiliaries and providing technical support to factories.
As a voting member of China's Technical Committee on Textile
Standards, she has participated in many drafting meetings of compulsory
standards, product standards and test methods on textile and footwear.
She is familiar with the policies, regulations, standards and technical
needs of the China market.
Among the topics that will be covered at the seminar will be:
Overview of administrative rules on product quality supervision system
for import and sale in the Chinese market, Introduction to mandatory
Chinese technical code of textile and apparel mark, National general
safety technical code for textile products, Labeling - instructions for
use of products by consumers, product standard system and product code.
