Philatelic Bureau earned over Rs. 24 m last year

Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga said that the income of philatelic Bureau exceeded Rs. 24.6 million last year, due to various reasons such as the quality of stamps, nature of stamp printing, theme, issuing stamps targeting local and international market and the philatelists.Minister Kumaratunga said that different approach of Philatelic Bureau in printing stamps, encouraging the employees and direct involvement were also accompanied the increase of income.

Steps have been taken to set up Philatelic Societies in schools in the Western Province schools in a couple of months with the support from Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

Plans are afoot to initiate such a program in the Central Province along with the Education Ministry, Minister said.
