Major political parties call to cease Israeli aggression in Gaza
A brutal Israeli assault on the impoverished and constricted Gaza
Strip has killed 231 Palestinians so far including 39 children and over
1,700 injured. Civilian homes, mosques, hospitals, a home for the
disabled and public infrastructure have been destroyed by aerial attacks
by Israel.
Sri Lanka, for over a half a century, with the overwhelming majority
of the international community has stood by calls for freedom for the
Palestinian people and their right to resist an illegal occupation and
oppression. As of 2013, Israel had been condemned in 45 resolutions by
United Nations Human Rights Council since its creation in 2006 -the
Council had resolved almost more resolutions condemning Israel than on
the rest of the world combined.
The Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine has invited
representatives of the country's major political parties for public
meeting on Tuesday July 22 at 3.30pm at the Library Services Auditorium
Colombo to jointly: * Condemn the mass killing of civilians.
* Denounce the double standards of the major powers in the
international community in upholding human rights.
* Demand freedom for Palestine and its people from decades of illegal
occupation and oppression.
The meeting will be presided by Co-Presidents of the Sri Lanka
Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, Senior Minister Athauda
Seneviratne and Imthiaz Bakeer Markar.
