German Chancellor bids farewell to Sri Lankan Ambassador Kongahage
Sri Lankan Ambassador Sarath Kongahage has met the Chancellor of the
Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel, during the annual
reception for the diplomatic community in Berlin and informed her on the
completion of his tour of duty as Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist
Republic of Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, he thanked her and the Federal Foreign Minister
Frank Walter Steinmeier for the support extended to him in strengthening
the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Ambassador extended the warmest greetings of the President of Sri
Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Minister of External Affairs. Prof. G.L.
Peiris, to the Federal Chancellor and the Foreign Minister.
Dr. Merkel and Mr. Steinmeier thanked the Ambassador for the
extensive work done by him to strengthen the relations, especially when
the two countries were celebrating the 60th anniversary of the beginning
of diplomatic relations.
They wished him all the best for his new assignment as the High
Commissioner of Sri Lanka in South Africa.
