Gateway Rewards Outstanding Achievers in Sports

The Annual Colours Nite of Gateway College was held at the BMICH on Saturday 19th July 2014. The Chief Executive Officer of DFCC Bank, former National Tennis Sensation Arjun Fernando was the Chief Guest. Over three hundred students from the four Gateway Schools in Colombo, Kandy, Negombo and Dehiwala received colors, merit and special awards at this glittering awards ceremony.

The Management of Gateway College actively promotes sports and extracurricular activities as part of the all round education offered by the school. Gateway College has excelled in sports such as Athletics, Basketball, Netball and Cricket, winning tournaments organized by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Sports and the International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL). This year's Colors Nite also saw awards being presented for the first time in sports such as Golf, Rowing and Squash which are relatively new to the school. The Chief Guest in his speech acknowledged the significant strides made by the school in the field of sports and encouraged students to develop a winning attitude which is now described as the 'killer instinct'. The evening programme also included choral and dance performances by the Gateway students of all schools which kept the audience entertained and enlivened.

The event also saw presentation of awards of appreciation to all coaches in keeping with the Gateway ethos of paying gratitude to teachers.

The highlight of the evening was the awarding of 'Gateway Dove' to Ireshani Rajasinghe, Udantha Bandara and Ruwanthi Ferdinandes for Athletics, Harini Silva for Swimming and Kamod Rashmitha for Badminton for representing the national team in their respective sports while still being in school.

This was a fitting finale to a very successful year in sports for Gateway Schools.
