Fifty boys and girls vie for Victoria golf honours

VICTORIA GOLF: Fifty young golfers, both boys and girls will vie for
honours in the three main competitions of the Victoria Junior Open Golf
Championship 2014 organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort with
Victoria Golf Foundation as the main sponsors and supported by many
co-sponsors will get underway August 3rd at the award winning Victoria
golf course at Rajawella off Kandy. The course will be open for free
practices on the previous day August 2nd. This will be an ideal
opportunity for young golfers in the country to show their prowess in
their respective age groups. The organisers have limited the number of
entries to fifty and this figure was reached well before the closing
date of entries.
Victoria golf course which has been the venue for many major golf
championships is in topping conditions and made it more challenging by
the General Manager Neroy Marson an the Course Manager Indu Rodrigo and
the support staff and the young golfers will have to come out with their
best if they are to walk away with honours.
The top prize will be the winner, first runner up and second runner
up of the Victoria Open championship for the Overall winner of the Gross
championship. The other championships will be a tournament for under 10
which will be a nine hole one. This is essentially for the beginners.
Little ones are expected to compete in this.
The rest of the championship will be 18 hole one extending to the
full course which will be as follows:
CLASS B: For boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 14 and there
will be prizes for the winner, first winner up and second runner-up: The
highest age group championship will be for boys and girls between the
age ages of 15 and 17 years which will be Class A. This championship is
open only to those who had not reached the age of 16. the winner, first
runner up and second runner up will be awarded prizes.
The awards ceremony will take place the same afternoon at the club
house.
